Emerging Citizen Leaders Living Learning Community
The Emerging Citizen Leaders Living Learning Community( LLC) is in its inaugural year in Fall 2026. The Emerging Citizen Leaders LLC is a program designed for incoming enterprise-minded students. This program will provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, business acumen, and cultural competence so that they become leaders who can create meaningful change in their communities.

Elements of The Emerging Citizen Leaders Living Learning Program

Common First Year Seminar Class
Students accepted into the Emerging Citizen Leaders program will be assigned to a First Year Seminar Course that will have a taught by one of the faculty from the business school or Residential Life and will focus on student leadership. For 2026, the faculty members will be Michael Harvey and Amy Sine, both of whom possess a passion and expertise in leadership and organizational development.
Michael Harvey, the John Toll Professor of Leadership Studies in the Warehime School of Business, has taught at Washington College since 1998. He is the author of numerous articles and author or editor of several books, including Questioning Leadership: A Framework for Growth and Purpose (Cambridge UP, 2024), Dead Precedents: Donald Trump in Historical Perspective (Routledge/Taylor & Francis, 2022), and The Nuts and Bolts of College Writing (3rd edition, Hackett, 2020). He teaches leadership, organizational behavior, and related courses, as well as first-year seminars.

Cohort Living Environment
Emerging Citizen Leaders will live together on the 4th floor of Minta Martin Hall. This will be a co-ed floor, with single-gender, common-corridor bathrooms. Participants can choose a roommate if that person has also been accepted in the program, otherwise Residential Life will facilitate the pairings.
To apply for the living learning community, just indicate this preference in the housing application and answer the short 2-3 sentence response that is requested.
Residential Life Staff Support

Amy Sine has been at Washington College for 11 years. She has over 25 years of experience in Residential Life. She has presented at conferences on various topics many of which focus on Leadership and Supervision. She was awarded the Joe Holt Service Award in 2023, which is the colleges highest honor for staff. She helped to develop a leadership LLC at a prior institution and will be teaching on the FYS courses tied to the Emerging Leaders Program

Jordyn is a senior at Washington College, where she is majoring in Business Management, and serves as a Resident Assistant for the Emerging Citizen Leaders Program. She is actively involved in the American Marketing Association and enjoys meeting new people, planning events, and helping create a positive and engaging community for students. Originally from St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Jordyn brings a diverse perspective and values building inclusive, welcoming spaces for all.
Brady Thompson is on the Washington College baseball team. Before Washington College, Brady played 3 years on Varsity baseball at Garnet Valley High School, receiving the ambassador
and outstanding leadership awards during his time there, as well as captain his Senior
year. Responsible for creating a philosophy club and joining the drama club in the
school. Brady has worked at Ascent Athlete since 2023 as a youth trainer/coach. He has served 30+
hours in the Wilmington area doing Community service and volunteer work. At WAC, he
is pursuing and degree in Business Administration and Spanish.
Emerging Citizen Leader Programming

Special Co-curricular Activities
Students will participate in a variety of events here on campus. Exclusive to the program will be a ropes course and Retreat in the Fall and a trip to the Smithsonian in the spring. Over the course of the year there will also be the opportunity to attend lectures from speakers sponsored through the Warehime School of Business. LLC participants will also be invited to the Presidential Leadership Summit in January

Collaborations with Intercultural Affairs
LLC participants will implement their own campus projects with support of the professional and peer supports from the Intercultural Affairs office. They also be required to attend 2 programs each semester sponsored by an affinity group or the Intercultural office.
Nicolle Moaney is the Director of Student Intercultural Affairs at Washington College. She works to cultivate a sense of community and belonging for all students. In her role, she supports affinity group programming, chairs the Hunger & Homelessness Committee, and serves on the Washington Scholars leadership team. Before joining Washington College, Nicolle worked in K-12 teaching and talent acquisition. In 2020, she co-founded the Needle’s Eye Academy, a nonprofit that encourages civic engagement and leadership opportunities rooted in literature and literacy access for underrepresented youth on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. In 2024, Nicolle was named a Tiny Fellow through the 4pt0 Tiny Fellowship. Outside of her work at Washington College, she is currently pursuing her Ed.M. in Higher Education Leadership at Harvard Graduate School of Education and developing a new stationery venture with the support of the Harvard Innovation Labs.
