Student Opportunities
With our location so close to the Chestertown arts and entertainment district, there are plenty of opportunities for our students to get involved in what interests them on and off campus. Take advantage of internships, research, artist talks, gallery exhibits, public art, and more in our community.
Find the Perfect Opportunity

Internships
- Gain experience with the curatorial process by working in Kohl Gallery, our on-campus gallery space for contemporary art.
- Earn a paid internship at a regional or national museum such as the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery or American Art Museum through the Explore America Summer Internship Program.
- Earn an editorial position on one of our student publications, Collegian literary magazine, The Elm newspaper, or Pegasus yearbook.
- Take advantage of the local arts community of Chestertown, working with the Public Art Committee, Kent Cultural Alliance, or one of several local galleries.
- Arrange your own internship experience through your own connections, or by tapping into the Center for Career Development's extensive network.

Research
- Participate in field trips to meet with artists in their studios, see galleries, or visit major collections in the region. We regularly visit galleries and museums in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York.
- Complete a Senior Capstone Experience (SCE), an independent research project answering any self-proposed question through the lens of art history.
- Exhibit your work in 100 Proof, the annual juried exhibition of student work in Kohl Gallery.
- Create your own research project. Support, financial or otherwise, is available across campus, including through the Hodson Collaborative Research Program or the Cater Society for Junior Fellows.
To get started thinking about what research you might be able to do at Washington College, review our faculty's areas of expertise.
