Buttons
Buttons are essentially styled links. They are best used to make a link more eye catching. But they can't be used in the midst of body copy in the same way a regular link can.
- Log into Modern Campus CMS and navigate to the page you want to add a link to.
- Check the page out.
- Click your cursor where you want the button to be placed.
- Click the "Styles" dropdown in the toolbar and select the style button you wish to use. See details on the styles below.
- When the button is placed on the page, type the link text into the button. See the notes on link text.
- Highlight the linked text within the button, then click the Insert/Edit Link option in the toolbar.
- Continue follow the usual steps for creating a link.
Note: Do not type out link text then add the button style. This will often result in the button not functioning properly. First add the button, then add the text.
Standard Buttons
The red, teal, and white buttons can be used as desired as long as they contrast against the background of the page or snippet they are placed in. Type the link text in sentence case, the button will style it as all caps.
When selecting a button style from the Styles dropdown, you will notice a "Standard Button" option. Ignore that, it is used in combination with the above styles.
External Button
The external button should only be used when linking to an external website.
Best Practices
- When linking text, make sure that the text describes the destination. Avoid generic link text such as "Click Here" or "Learn More".
- Images should not be linked as there will be no indication that there is a link to click.
- Do not create an empty link or button to emphasize text, all links and buttons must be complete.
- When text is linked, a style is automatically applied. Do not apply any additional styles such as bold or underline. For stylized links, see the section on buttons.
