Recommended Laptops
Washington College provides recommended specifications for both Apple and PC laptops to help students effectively complete their academic coursework. For specific requirements, students should consult with their department chair or program faculty.
Apple Laptops
- Recommended Specifications: 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD storage.
- Additional Information: Students, families, faculty, and staff can purchase Apple products at discounted prices through Apple's education store. AppleCare+ for Mac extends warranty coverage from the purchase date and offers additional protection against damage and repairs. The Technology Services Center (TSC) has a certified Apple technician on-site for troubleshooting and repairs on devices (in-or-out of warranty).
PC Laptops
- Recommended Specifications: 14-inch display, i5 processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD storage.
- Additional Information: For enhanced durability, consider business-class models. Some distributors and manufacturers offer educational discounts. Extended warranties and accidental damage coverage, available from most manufacturers, are recommended for added protection. The Technology Services Center (TSC) has a certified Lenovo ThinkPad technician on-site for troubleshooting and repairs on devices (in-or-out of warranty). Please note, the Lenovo technician is only certified for the ThinkPad series. Non-ThinkPad devices can be inspected, but not repaired.
Other Devices
Smartphones, Chromebooks, iPads, and other tablets are not recommended as primary computing devices.
Microsoft Office 365
Full-time students can download Microsoft Office 365 Pro for free on up to five personal devices. This package includes essential tools for academic work and features to keep computers secure.
