Honor Societies
High-achieving biology majors may participate in the activities of these two scientific honor societies.
Beta Beta Beta
Also known as TriBeta, Beta Beta Beta is a national honor society that recognizes scholarship and encourages understanding of biology and involvement in community. Washington College members volunteer as judges at the local middle school science fairs and participate in Stream Waders, a water monitoring program operated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Sigma Xi
Sigma Xi is an International research honor society founded in 1886 to honor excellence in scientific investigation, encourages students to conduct significant research, and to share their findings with the larger scientific community.
Awards
Department of Biology Academic Achievement Award
Awarded to the graduating senior who has demonstrated excellent academic achievement and exceptional depth of understanding in the field of biology.
Department of Biology Award of Special Recognition
Awarded on a special occasion to the graduating biology major who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and an exceptional depth of understanding in the field of biology.
Department of Biology Research Award
Awarded to the graduating biology major who has demonstrated excellence in academics and undergraduate biological research.
Department of Biology Teaching Award
Awarded on special occasion to the graduating biology major who has demonstrated academic excellence and exceptional dedication to science education.
