Marylanders love Maryland!

March 25th is Maryland Day, a day to enjoy all things Maryland.
Do you want to explore more of Maryland and find out what makes it unique? Our Maryland collection, encompassing Maryland Reference and Special Maryland (Rare Books) as well, includes books on all the things that come to mind and some that might not. Visit our Maryland Collection on the Second floor of Miller Library and browse. You will find oral histories, cookbooks, nature and travel guides, biographies, and fiction about Maryland and by Maryland writers, as well as nonfiction on every subject from folklore to politics and maps to music.
You will also find children’s books, including B is for Blue Crab, a Maryland-specific alphabet by Shirley C. Menendez, illustrated by Laura Stutzman.
Our growing collection of Maryland cookbooks proves that we’re not just about crabs, oysters, and Old Bay seasoning...although those three things are VERY important!
Tom Horton, author and one-time Baltimore Sun reporter, spent 3 years living on Maryland’s
remote Smith Island, where a few core families have lived since the 1600s, preserving
ways of living that have changed relatively little over time. His observations are
recorded in An Island out of Time: A Memoir of Smith Island on the Chesapeake.
Maryland: A Guide to the Old Line State is a collection of driving routes through every corner of our diverse state, from the Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic
Ocean. Sprinkled throughout (especially in the older edition!), you will find fascinating
stories and historical lore that you won’t find anywhere else.
Veteran radio producer and former Washington College staff member Michael Buckley has published the text of more than 50 radio interviews with people who have lived, worked, and played in our watery region in Voices of the Chesapeake Bay.
