Student Opportunities

Learning does not only happen inside the classroom. Washington College students pursue internships and research positions, get involved in clubs and other community activities, and expand their social horizons. Explore areas that interest you, pursue questions that fascinate you, and earn leadership roles in organizations that matter to you.

Research

  • Get into the lab as soon as your first year. Every required course has a lab component, allowing you to develop and refine lab skills and techniques.
  • Complete a Senior Capstone Experience (SCE), pursuing a topic that interests you. The SCE can be either experimental or literature-based research and will include both a written component and an oral presentation.
  • Work one-on-one with faculty to complete research and lab work.
  • Present your research at professional conferences, like the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as other national and regional association conferences.
  • Create your own research project. Support, financial or otherwise, is available across campus, including through the Cater Society for Junior Fellows and the John S. Toll Science & Mathematics Program

To get started thinking about what research you might be able to do at Washington College, review our faculty’s areas of expertise.
