Model United Nations
The Washington College Model United Nations program is both a student-led club and
a 2-credit course offered by the Political Science Department. The weekly class and
club meeting focuses on the organization and function of the United Nations and engaging
students in simulated committees and topics. Model UN is a unique opportunity for
students to travel, make connections with students from other colleges, and engage
in hands-on learning and debate broadening their knowledge of international issues
and debate skills.

Each year the Model UN team competes in two competitions: a North-East regional conference in the Fall and an international conference in the spring. Washington College students have competed and won awards at, to name a few, Yale University, William and Mary, University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard’s WorldMUN (hosted internationally every spring). While the conferences do have a tryout process, any student can take the courses or participate in the club regardless of intention or ability to compete.
Successful completion of this course with credit will also qualify as a completion of the Experiential Requirement in the Political Science major.
