Global Business

Today business happens everywhere, and goes everywhere. Africa boasts the world’s fastest growing economies. The world's most popular social-media app, TikTok, is a Chinese creation. And while we think of the United States as a big country, in total Americans make up only 4% of the world's population. That means that almost all of your customers, competitors — and opportunities —  are from somewhere else, speak a different language, and have a different way of looking at the world. Global learning is part of the Department of Business Management.

Short-term study abroad

Over the summer, Washington College Business Management faculty take students abroad for up to two weeks of intensive study and experiential learning in international business through BUS 330 International Business Experience. While destinations and itineraries are subject to change, students typically visit two businesses each weekday for facilities tours and/or presentations by managers on their firm's international strategy. Cultural activities are scheduled in the evenings and on weekends. The most recent destination was Spain.

Global-focus courses

Students can study a language through the 202 level, or by taking two global-focus courses. One course will be taught by Business Management faculty, the other could be cross-listed in other departments. The list of approved global-focus courses is updated annually to reflect the course catalog.
