Mighty Match Day Set for Oct. 26
The annual giving day raises support for College programs, and all donors’ gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar by generous members of the Washington community.
Friends and supporters of Washington College have a notable opportunity to build up the programs on campus that they care about the most. Every donation to Washington College on Oct. 26 will be doubled, with eight primary causes highlighted.
In advance of Mighty Match Day, everyone who feels strongly about what the College makes possible for its students and community is encouraged to sign up to be an ambassador, volunteering to spread the word as well as support Mighty Match Day.
“The generosity of our larger Washington College community is vital to the institution being able to provide the rigorous, impactful, and unique student experience we all know and love here,” said Susie Chase, vice president for advancement, alumni, and constituent engagement. “Washington benefits tremendously from both the funds we raise on Mighty Match Day and the way members of our community—students, families, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters—share what this College means to them far and wide.”
In addition to the match that is active throughout the event, Mighty Match Day features a number of challenges to provide some fun and good-natured competition all day long. In some cases, early donations are the key. Every gift before 10 a.m. will earn donors a special car magnet, and the first 50 gifts of $50 from graduates of the last four years will receive an associate membership to The 1782 Society. Other challenges are for the event overall, such as a $2,500 gift pledged to The Washington Fund that will be unlocked when 250 donors post about their gift on social media during the day.
The Washington Fund provides critical support to all activities of the College, while the other seven highlighted opportunities are more specific:
- Supporting academic programs, for example by updating classroom technology
- The Athey Athletics Fund, which supports our new golf and future track and field programs, among others
- The renovation of Miller Library Terrace, to make it more accessible and sustainable
- Making a civic impact through GIS projects
- Supporting a digital mental healthcare solution for students
- Giving to an emergency fund for student critical needs
- Making a direct investment in student clubs
Regardless of which cause they support, alumni will all be competing in a Battle of the Decades Challenge. The decade of alumni with the most donors will receive a limited-edition matching set of Washington College drink coasters.
Everyone who signs up as an ambassador will receive their own personalized URL, and the three ambassadors whose links bring in the most donors by the end of the day will win Chestertown Cash that can be used at local businesses. Additional challenges during Mighty Match Day will feature parents, alumni couples, and more.
