Majors: Environmental Science and Economics

For as long as he can remember, Nick has been fascinated by everything in the natural world.

He spent his childhood summers at the beach learning to surf and passing the time outside. When visiting his grandmother in the Great Smoky Mountains his parents took him on their hikes as soon as he could walk. This time spent in the woods introduced him to backpacking, which allowed him to explore places like the Porcupine Mountains, Isle Royale, and the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.

At school Nick is driven by his interest in understanding how people and the environment interact with each other. As a major of both Environmental Science and Economics he has been able to explore this crossover in depth. By participating in the school’s Chesapeake Semester Program, he learned more about the many ties between people, place, and environment. For him, the permaculture internship is a great opportunity for continued exploration of a lifelong passion.
