    Internships

Receive up to four academic credits for an academic internship.

Internships can be taken for either 2 or 4 credits; internships that are 11-12 hours or more per week are eligible for 4 credits. Two credit internships must be taken pass/fail.  Four-credit internships can be taken either pass/fail or for a letter grade.

One internship taken for a letter grade can count for elective credit for the English major. Internships for the Journalism and Editing & Publishing or Creative Writing minors can be taken pass/fail. See our Courses and Requirements page for more information on distribution and credits.

All students earning credit for an internship must complete weekly journal entries. Students earning 2- credit pass/fail internship must complete a 2-3 page reflection paper. Students with a 4-credit pass/fail internship must complete a 4-5 page reflection paper. Students earning a grade for the internships must complete a 7-8 page reflection paper that includes at least 2 secondary sources, which will be chosen in consultation with the Internship coordinator.

If you are interested in doing an internship for credit, contact Dr. Elizabeth O’Connor, the department’s internship coordinator, to discuss your plans and options. In order to receive academic credit, students must be registered for an academic internship PRIOR to the first day of work. Refer to the Academic Internships web page to access the necessary forms.
