Erin O’Callahan

Class of 2008

Erin has her sights set on a career in school counseling.

I am finishing my MA in Counseling with my School Counseling Certification at New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ. For the past year I have been working on my Internship at an inner-city elementary school in Jersey City.

I will finish my degree in December, and for the time being I am working for the American Cancer Society’s North Jersey Chapter, doing recruitment and fundraising for their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. Once I complete my MA, I am hoping to either continue with ACS in a different capacity - possibly patient counseling and navigation - or become a school guidance counselor in the Northern NJ area.

In my Counseling classes and Internship, as well as in my job at ACS, I constantly find myself applying skills or just remembering something I picked up during a Sociology class or from one of my professors at WC. Many of my classes on gender and family life, as well as Professor Barrell’s Social Welfare classes and Dr. Lange’s Criminology courses, have been valuable to me in my work and continuing education.
