Latin American Film Festival

Beginning this Sunday, October 20th, the Spanish and Portuguese Clubs will begin their co-sponsored Latin American Film Festival (October 20-November 24)!

We will be showing alternating films, with Portuguese one week and Spanish the next, and so on. ALL FILMS WILL HAVE ENGLISH SUBTITLES, so don’t fret! Each film will be shown on a Sundays at 7pm in the Norman James Theater of William Smith Hall, and will be followed by a discussion led by the Spanish and Portuguese Clubs.


October 20: Última parada 174 (Brazil, 2008) The life stories of several people involved in a bus hijacking in Rio de Janiero, based on true events.  


October 27: Leonera (Argentina, 2008) A woman struggles to raise her son while in prison. 


November 3: Abril despedaçado (Brazil, 2001) A young man is told to kill a member of a feuding family in 1910, while falling in love with a traveling circus performer and looking after his younger brother.


November 10: No (Chile, 2012) An advertising man works during the 1980 plebiscite (national referendum) against Chile’s ruling general, August Pinochet. 

November 17: Deus é brasileiro (Brazil, 2003) A fisherman finds a man floating in the ocean who claims to be God, and the two travel across Brasil to find God’s replacement. 

November 24: Violeta se fue a los cielos (Chile, 2011) A biography of Chilean folk singer and folklorist Violeta Parra.
