Gorton was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998. His citation is below:
In 1974 G.P. Lindsay transfered to Washington College. Denison University’s loss was the Sho’men’s gain. G.P. was a stellar young athlete at the Servern School, the Annapolis academy from which he graduated in 1973. A star on their football team, he was picked for All-County, All Tri-County and was named the Most Valuable Player. But he was a super nova, the brightest of stars, on the lacrosse field. G.P. was selected to the All-State and the All-Maryland Scholastic Association Lacrosse Teams and was chosen as the Most Valuable Player his senior year. At his prep school graduation he was presented the Athletic Award as the most outstanding athlete at Severn.
GP distinguished himself in lacrosse during his freshman year at Denison by being selected to the Midwest Conference All-Conference lacrosse team. Upon arriving at Washington College he immediately made his presence felt at the midfield position and was a primary contributor for three successful years at the college. The 1976 and 1977 teams, coached by Don Kelly, made it to the semi-finals and finals of the National NCAA tournament. In G.P.’s senior year, under Coach Mickey Dimaggio ‘60, the team lost to UMBC in the semi-finals. The same year, G.P. led the team in goals scored with 32.
He was selected to the 2nd Team All-American Squad in 1976 and the 1st team All-American Squad in both 1977 and 1978. In 1977 and 1978, he was also selected as the Hero’s Midfielder of the Year and in 1978 was picked as the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Midfielder of the Year.
After graduation from Washington College he played lacrosse as a member of both McGarvey’S and Clarkes Club Teams and later for the Washington Waves Box Lacrosse Team.
From 1980 to 1982 he the position of assistant lacrosse coach at his alma mater the Severn School. With his assistance, these teams captured three MSA “B” championships.
G.P. is currently the President of the Progressive Title Corporation, a real estate settlement company in Arnold, Maryland.
It is an honor and a pleasure for Washington College to induct Gorton Parker Lindsay into the Washington College Athletic Hall of Fame on this 3rd day of October 1998.
