The Town Attorney for Chestertown since 1997, Stewart Barroll has been a general practitioner of the law for more than thirty years. He has extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation in both state and federal courts, personal injury law, interstate adoptions and estate planning.
Stewart is well-versed in the negotiation, preparation and interpretation of contracts, real property law and the creation and structuring of business entities. He represents nearly three dozen businesses and organizations in the area, including marinas, retail stores, manufacturers, farmers, volunteer fire companies, churches, a mobile home park, a restaurant, a bank and the local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge.
Community service activities over his career number nearly 30 board memberships including Chesapeake College Foundation, Chester River Health Foundation, the Humane Society of Kent County and Historical Films, Inc. (a non-profit corporation he incorporated and which he serves as secretary).
He has handled approximately twenty appeals in the appellate courts and six of his cases have been published in the official reports due to their precedential value. He is a commissioned officer (Major) in the Maryland Defense Force, of the State Guard.
