Joseph Holt ’83 M’98

Director of Institutional Giving

Joe Holt received his BA in political science and his MA in history from Washington College. He also completed a certificate program at the Institute for Educational Management of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He completed the Shore Leadership Program in 1998.

After completing his undergraduate education, Mr. Holt served for five years in the Reagan Administration, serving in the Office of Presidential Personnel at the White House and as Special Assistant to the U.S. Commissioner of Social Security. After leaving government service, he served as Coordinator of Advising and Testing at Chesapeake College.

In 1991, Mr. Holt was appointed Executive Assistant to the President of Washington College. In 1996, he was promoted to Vice President for Administration, in 2001 was promoted to Executive Vice President, and in 2006 was conferred the title of Chief of Staff.  In these capacities, he served as the principal assistant to the College President and coordinated the work of the College’s Senior Staff and of the Board of Visitors and Governors.  In February 2017, Mr. Holt assumed his current role as Director of Institutional Giving in the Office of College Advancement.  In this new capacity, he will oversee the College’s corporate, foundation, and government fund raising program.  For his service, he awarded the President’s Distinguished Service Award and the Gold Pentagon Award.

Mr. Holt previously served on the Boards of Chester River Craft and Art, the Schooner Sultana Project, and the Kent County United Way.  He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Artisans Committee for the annual Chestertown Tea Party Festival and as an appointee of Governor Larry Hogan to represent higher education on the P-20 Leadership Council of Maryland.
