Rogério Souza and Choro Ensemble

As part of its FREE 12@Hothkiss Series, the Washington College Department of Music celebrates Brazil Day 2013 with a performance by Brazilian guitarist Rogério Souza Silva showcasing his exciting interpretations of choro and samba.

The Washington College Department of Music is proud to present Rogério Souza in concert. Rogério is an award-winning seven-string guitarist, composer, and arranger from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil whose swing and virtuosity have contributed to the works of Paulinho da Viola and Época de Ouro. This concert is co-sponsored by the Washington College Concert Series, the Department of Modern Languages, and the Office of MultiCultural Affairs. It will be presented in Hotchkiss Hall.

Rogério has toured throughout Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Asia, performing and recording with some of the greatest artists in Brazilian popular music, including Paulinho da Viola, João Bosco, Ney Matogrosso, Ivan Lins, Elizeth Cardoso, Dona Ivone Lara, Elsa Soares, Zélia Duncan, Leila Pinheiro, Baden Powell, Paulo Moura, Guinga, and Época de Ouro. He is one of the founding members of Nó em Pingo D’Agua (A Knot in a Drop of Water), one of Brazil’s most innovative choro ensembles, with whom he has released six recordings

Rogério completed his first solo CD Violão Brasileiro in 2008 and has recorded two CDs in collaboration with his brother, the Brazilian mandolinist Ronaldo de Bandolim: Época de Choro and Retrato Brasileiro: Músicas de Baden Powell. He is also the author of a method book on choro guitar and has co-authored a three-volume collection of choro transcriptions, Songbook Choro, volumes 1-3.For more, see
