Asian Studies

To Understand Asia is to Understand the 21st Century

Over half of the world’s population lives in Asia, a region of remarkable cultural, ethnic, political, and economic diversity.  Asia is massive, and it contains multitudes.  Asian stories and Asian questions are fascinating, and understanding them will be critical to understand the world today and in the future.  How does the rearming of Japan change its position in Asian and world politics?  Why is China returning to Confucius?  How do people today read the great philosophies of Laozi, Confucius, and the Buddha?
